JND OCTOBER EVENTS
High Holiday Services
JND Tashlich and Happy Hour
Monday, October 3, 5:30 PM
La Merde (301 SE Morrison Street)
Join us as we symbolically cast off our sins (bread) from last year into a flowing river (the Willamette). We will all meet under the Morrison Bridge at 5:30, Sarah Phillips will lead us through a short Tashlich service, then we will all walk to La Merde to enjoy some libations. If at any point you want to join in please check the facebook page as we will update our whereabouts.
JND October Shabbat
Friday, October 7, 7:30 PM
CBI/ Pollin Chapel (1972 NW Flanders Street)
Our first service this fall all on our own! We had a great summer joining the congregation at Shabbat on the Plaza, but we are so excited to get back to our roots. Services are filled with a great mix of traditional prayers, modern songs, and insightful discussions. As usual, we will walk together for drinks and snacks after services. Parking is available on Flanders and NW 19th.
Break the Fast with Moishe House and Jews Next Dor
Wednesday, October 12, 6:30 PM
CBI Youth Lounge (1972 NW Flanders)
Yom Kippur is one of the holiest and hungriest days of the year. So, join Moishe House and Jews Next Dor as we break the fast with breakfast type food! (See what we did there?! The word breakfast comes from break the fast!). Meet us at the Youth Lounge at Congregation Beth Israel. We will be providing a traditional spread of bagels with schmear, kugel, and much more! Feel free to bring something to contribute (like dessert!). Congregation Beth Israel has generously opened a space for us, but the event will be hosted by Moishe House and JND. The event is open to anyone.
JND Lulav and Lager
Tuesday, October 18, 7:00 PM
CBI, Sukkah on the Plaza (1972 NW Flanders)
Bring your favorite beer (i.e. 6-pack) to share and a snack to the Congregation Beth Israel sukkah for an evening of beer and fun! Have an opportunity to shake the lulav and etrog and determine your favorite kind of beer. Sarah Phillips will be leading a short service. Wear appropriate clothing for potentially cold weather!
Apples & Honey Happy Hour
Thursday, September 29, 6:00 PM
Opal 28 (501 NE 28th Ave)
CBI Soup Sac Volunteering
Sunday, October 16th, 10:00 AM
CBI (1972 NW Flanders)
Congregation Beth Israel's Social Action Committee needs your help! We will make lunch and deliver them all around Portland to those in need. You can help out early in the morning by making some soup or sandwiches or help in the late morning by delivering the food.
Jewish Federation of Greater Portland: Passport to Jewish Portland
Passport to Jewish Portland is a new communal initiative that provides young adults (ages 22-30) with a membership to a participating synagogue, the Mittleman Jewish Community Center, Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education and a subscription to Oregon Jewish Life magazine for one year at the cost of $360.
